Buzen Gou is still a national treasure, an important cultural artifact, alongside the other Gou swords.... but it's also never been seen besides being known in name, and its current location is uncertain.
Is legacy enough to confirm that something really exists? [ . . . ] Well, that's a bigger question than I know how to answer.
So sometimes I lose sight of what's around me, or lose track of where I am... so I guess I might not be real.
[the sudden, brief discombobulation. matsui standing with him as if to ground him to reality. it's because of who buzen is, or who he isn't. this makes sense to rang in ways a lot of other things don't. he's not sure he wants it to make sense. there's nothing more uncomfortable than the idea of knowing.
but he's drawn to the tragedy of it, that someone so deeply cherished as Buzen could possibly be just a mirage. that the world he treasures is a place that could exist just fine without him.
or possibly do much worse, without his presence.]
Spirits live and die by their stories. That's all we really are, in the end.
Maybe yours is to exist while questioning your existence.
[if he's being honest? but he understands the sentiment. he smiles faintly though - despite the topic, it's not something that weighs him down, not really. he's had time to come to peace with it.]
I think if I have any story, it's being part of the Gou school.
To me... existing is being remembered. As long as I'm remembered, even a little, by someone somewhere... then that's enough. Even if it's just part of a larger group of Gou no Yoshihiro's works.
[he just smiles faintly at that, his mood lifted by the chance to talk about his beloved gous. his entire expression softens.]
It means that even if you're more or less a group of strangers who have different histories, who have never met... you might be lucky enough to all be in one place. It means a bunch of the weirdest people I've ever met, but knowing as deep as my steel that they're mine.... you know? That they're the same as me, in the most important way - because we were created by the same hands.
At least, supposedly.
... and being a Gou also means - to always be waiting.
Kotegiri arrived at the Citadel first - and then he had to wait for the rest of us to show up. But even now, we're not complete. There are other Gou swords out there, who aren't ready to join us yet... so we're still incomplete.
And for me - I'm always waiting to be found, to see if I get a chance to join them for real again, even after everything's over...
but he's not here to argue, or be as ornery as he's already been. he came to ask buzen a question and he got his answer. rang waves a hand like YEAH YEAH]

Maybe I should make you guess?

How many chances do I get?

[keeps walking... thinking...]
You had enough of all the emotions and reactions and needed space from everyone to breath.
no subject
I don't blame anyone if that's the case but... even if this was overwhelming -
I've still lived through worse.
no subject
It's because of your human body. You're still not used to it.
no subject
[but he grins]
One last guess, Rang-san.
no subject
It has nothing to do with being a sword or having a human body. It's because of you.
[a beat]
You lost something important, and you're not yourself because it's gone.
no subject
[an impressed sound - before he just laughs]
I'll give you half the points... 'cause it's not just something. I've lost all of me. Or I guess history has, technically.
no subject
give him a moment,]
...Were you forgotten by humans? [he thinks of all the house and tree spirits, once worshipped and then eventually discarded,
though if Buzen was given a body and has an 'Aruji', then wouldn't that have changed?]

but maybe buzen accepts that because of who he is, or maybe because of the people in his story?]
I want to hear that story. [as fellow spirits, obviously!!!] What does that mean, being a part of the Gou school?

Waiting for what? For each other? For your master?

Well, I guess I shouldn't be too greedy.
no subject
...If you're content with what you have, then there's no reason to want or need more.
[a little dully, though he smiles, sharp-edged after a brief moment]
You care about them so much, and yet you're willing to break yourself if I erase someone here.
no subject
Yeah.
Because I won't be able to look them in the eye, knowing that I let other innocent people die in order for me to survive.
no subject
You're very sure of yourself for someone who doesn't know he exists.
[ANNOYING]

[with a lot of confidence....]
Afraid that's all there is to it, Rang-san.

I'm heading back to the warehouse.
